A National Park Lodge With Golden Gate Views
San Francisco Bay's first national park lodge is to open on June 1 at the north end
of the Golden Gate Bridge. Cavallo Point, the Lodge at the Golden Gate (www.cavallopoint.com)
is in Fort Baker, right, a military post established in 1897 and part of the Golden Gate
national Parks.
The property is set among the rolling hills with bay and bridge views. There will be
142 rooms and suites, with 68 of them in national Historic Landmark buildings and 74 in
new buildings. All suites will have organic bedding and linens, Wi-Fi access and flat-screen televisions.
The lodge's Healing Arts Center and Spa will have 12 treatment rooms, a heated basking
tool and a medicinal herb garden, where guests can pick their own ingredients for treatments.
The restaurant will serve French-inspired California cuisine and will have a 13,000-bottle wine cellar.
The property will also serve as the home for the Institute at the Golden Gate, an
environmental organization that is a project of the Golden Gate national Parks Conservancy
and the National Park Service. Nightly Rates will start at about $250.
