Patch Salad

I’ve served this simple salad every summer for the last ten years. It was inspired by a small garden called ‘The Patch’ in Sonoma, close to the restaurant I ran at the time. There was a small stand at the entrance of the farm with beautiful varieties of tomatoes and melons next to a small cash box set up on an honor system. I fell in love with the simplicity of this amazing little farm and became fast friends with Lazaro, the farmer. We would head to The Patch daily before dinner service to pick up our tomatoes and melons still warm from the field. I realized then how important and rewarding it was to have a close relationship with the passionate people that grow my ingredients. I will forever have this salad on my menus during tomato and melon season.
