2012 Chappellet “Pritchard Hill," Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

In anticipation of our upcoming wine dinner with the Chappellet family in April (details to come soon), we’ve selected their 2012 Pritchard Hill Cabernet to spotlight as our latest featured wine. The Pritchard Hill bottling has always been one of Napa’s iconic wines, but the near perfect 2012 vintage makes this wine a classic. Rated 99+ points by Robert Parker, he effuses, “The dense purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill Estate exhibits a striking bouquet of spring flowers, blueberries, raspberries and blackcurrants. This is a compelling wine with profound depth and flavor, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a velvety integration of tannin, acidity and wood. Pushing perfection in Cabernet Sauvignon, this multidimensional, skyscraper-like offering has all the intensity one expects, but it never comes across as heavy. This gives it an ethereal character that is nearly impossible to articulate, but genius is often hard to explain. It is clearly a major superstar of a great vintage.” We wholeheartedly agree!

Wine Director Jamie Harding

Jamie Harding is a long-time resident of the Bay Area with extensive ties to its wine and food trade. Named Cavallo Point’s Wine Director in summer 2013, Jamie was previously Sommelier at the lodge for several years. In this role, he helped guests make informed selections from the wine list, educated staff on various aspects of wine and proper service, and assisted in purchasing and managing Cavallo Point's 12,000-bottle wine cellar.

Before joining the Cavallo Point team, Jamie was manager and wine buyer at Vivande Porta Via, a popular San Francisco eatery, and a wine sales representative for Indy Wines Distribution. He began his career in food and wine as a bartender for several years at the Hawthorne Lane and Two restaurants. Jamie received a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University.
