The Cooking School is an inviting place to gather, learn and indulge the senses. Filled with natural light and state-of-the-art culinary equipment, it celebrates the love of food, taste and cooking's simple pleasures. The educational experiences explore relationships among local agriculture, farmers, ranchers, fishmongers and artisan producers. Classes focus on classic culinary techniques, seasonality and sustainability. Our mission is to inspire people to create, share and eat!

Custom Hands-On Classes

• Bites & Flights
  

  Interactive and hands-on, this simple, 2.5-hour class features small plates and bites. Savor 4-8 different bites paired with a flight of four wines, 3-ounces each.

• Cupcake Social
  

  There's nothing like batter and icing to bring out the inner child. Remember licking grandma's batter bowl? This 2.5-hour, hands-on class features a selection of cupcakes and toppings. Guests bake, frost and decorate their own cupcakes.

• Diners, Drive Ins & Blue Plates
  

  Recreate favorite blue-plate specials and retro classics in this 2.5-hour, hands-on cooking class. Menus might include chicken and waffles, fried pickles, the Dog 'n Suds classic burger or the ultimate soda-jerk milkshake. Alternately, ask your group members to provide us with some of their old-time favorites; we'll either recreate the recipe or source the original. Menu is subject to approval and needs to be provided three weeks before the class to allow for recipe research and development.

• Mystery Box
  

  This 3-hour, hands-on class features four food stations, each with the same mystery box of ingredients. No recipes are provided for this class. Instead, participants are challenged to create a working recipe, name the dish, present it and provide tastes to their "diners." Class includes tastes and one glass of wine.

• Cooking from the Farmer's Market
  

  Cook a seasonal feast with organic local ingredients grown within miles of Cavallo Point, fresh from local farmers. Prepare and learn about Bay Area ocean-fresh fish and sustainably raised meats. After the cooking is done, sit down and enjoy the meal you created, with wines to match.

  Hands-on cooking class with sit-down, three-course lunch/dinner (4 hours)

  This quick, 1.5-hour interactive class is designed to either relax and calm, or energize and rejuvenate. Choose from tea blending and massage – or smoothies, energy snacks and stretching.

• The Culinary Social Hour
  

  This interactive, hands-on cooking class, designed for groups of 30 to 50, allows guests to mingle, graze or work with a staff instructor at a food station to create small plates and easy appetizers. Depending on the group size, there will be 3-5 food stations, each with 2-3 menu items. This 2.5-hour class is held in the Cooking School. In addition, to accommodate the larger groups associated with this class, use of the adjacent, private board room, La Mariposa Borracha, is also required, where a separate bar with sweets and coffee service can be set up, if desired; La Mariposa Borracha is priced separately, upon request.

Custom Demonstration Classes

  Come watch a demonstration, savory or sweet. A member of our culinary staff shows how to select prime ingredients and make a number of delectable dishes at home. The 2.5-hour demonstration class, which includes four tastes, features a seasonal menu using organic local ingredients.

Combined Workshops: Cooking School & Dr. Brad

• Healthy Eating and Nutrition Workshops
  

  Resident Integrative Medicine doctor, Brad Jacobs, MD, and Cooking School Director Jayne Reichert provide a four-hour, hands-on cooking class that includes the preparation and cooking of a delicious, locally sourced meal. Dr. Brad discusses the meal's medicinal and nutritional benefits, the relationship between food and mood, energy level, cravings and mental focus. Chef Jayne Reichert explains where and how ingredients are sourced, teaches basic knife skills, and guides you through meal preparation.
