Hikers

Chapel Steps to Bay Trail Hike

$200 for up to 6 people (above 6 people is $20 per person)

More of a stroll than a hike, you will be led under a grove of eucalyptus trees and to the retired Battery Yates along the coastline.  This simple yet serene trek leads you up into the hills behind Ft. Baker and down into Horseshoe Cove, providing picturesque views of the former military post, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay.  This walk is perfect for those wanting to experience a piece of Marin’s natural beauty without the workout.

Distance: 2 miles round trip
Difficulty: Easy
Time: Approximately 1 hours (roundtrip)

Battery Spencer Hike

$250 for up to 6 people (above 6 people is $20 per person)

Hike under the Golden Gate Bridge up to Battery Spencer overlooking the Oceanside of the San Francisco Bay. Built in 1897 as part of the Harbor Defense of San Francisco, Battery Spencer was a concrete coastal gun battery for the U.S. Coastal Artillery. Now retired, this battery serves as a lookout point with some of the best views one can get of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. You definitely do not want to forget your camera when going on this particular jaunt!

Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: Low moderate
Time: Roughly 1.5-2 hours (roundtrip)

Couple hiking overlooking Golden Gate Bridge

Coastal Trail to SCA Trail

$250 for up to 6 people (above 6 people is $20 per person)

Saunter amongst California’s Golden Poppies as you take the Coastal Trail up into the Marin Headlands.  This hike is the launching point from Ft. Baker to the many trails scattered throughout the headlands. Roundtrip, this hike can take up to 2.5 hours, but may be longer if you decide to venture farther into Marin’s countryside. Taking along a camera might be a wise choice, as you will get pleasant views of San Francisco and the rest of the Bay.

Distance:  3 miles round trip
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours (roundtrip)

Marin Hiking

Kirby Cove Hike

$300 for up to 6 people (above 6 people is $20 per person)

Kirby Cove nestles at the foot of the Marin Headlands just west of the Golden Gate Bridge.  From Ft. Baker, the hike up Conzelman Rd. and down through a grove of cypress, eucalyptus and pine to the beach takes a little over an hour or so.  At the cove, you will find a pristine wedge of course-sand beach with a fabulous view of the Golden Gate Bridge and northern San Francisco—and you might even spy a whale!

Distance: 4.5 miles round trip
Difficulty: Low moderate
Time: Approximately 2-2.5 hours (roundtrip)

Couple hiking up a hill

Slacker Ridge

$350 for up to 6 people (above 6 people is $20 per person)

Connect to this amazing peak from the Coastal Trail, and you will receive some of the best views of the Marin Headlands, San Francisco, the Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.  Walking from Cavallo Point, it can take anywhere from 1-2hrs to reach the lookout.  Despite its name, this trail is hardly for “slackers,” as its last half mile boasts a steady incline.  Reach the top, though, and you will see (weather permitting) the panorama that makes this journey worth it all!

Distance: 4 to 4.5 miles roundtrip
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: Approximately 2 – 3 hours (roundtrip)

man hiking

Rodeo Valley Trail to Bobcat Trail

Price: $400 for up to 6 people (above 6 people is $20 per person)

Dip into the Rodeo Valley and fall into the trance of tranquility that this region can provide to a hiker.  From Ft. Baker, this route can take up to five hours or so to return to Cavallo Point Lodge, wherein you will come across Red Tail Hawks flying overhead, or maybe even a Mission Blue Butterfly perched on some local Lupine.  At the peak of elevation along this particular trek, you will be rewarded (weather permitting, of course) with amazing views of the valley, Rodeo Beach and the powerful Pacific Ocean.

Distance: 8.5 - 10 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: Approximately 5 hours (roundtrip)
