Outdoor Adventures at Cavallo Point

You don’t need to go far from the city to get outside! Leave the hustle and bustle behind and head to Cavallo Point, nestled within the 75,000-acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Take in stunning views, drink in the fresh air and soothing breezes, and explore. With more than 350 acres of trails for running, hiking, and biking, plus wide-open spaces and protected areas, there’s plenty of space for you and your family and friends to slow down, stretch out, and recharge your batteries. The tranquil setting within America’s most popular National Park  is the perfect place for a much-anticipated (and well-deserved) escape.

From Cavallo Point, guests can easily access the Marin Headlands, Horseshoe Cove, Battery Yates, Battery Cavallo, Battery Duncan, Yellow Bluff, and the Fort Baker Bay Trail, among other nature areas. And, of course, the conveniences of the city aren’t far away. Start your day with a warm summer “rocking chair” moment, with coffee and fresh pastries on your deck. Spend the afternoon exploring hiking trails, flying kites on playful Bay winds, or biking to breathtaking views. In the evening, curl up by the outdoor fire pit with a nightcap or watch the city sparkle from an outdoor dining table. Take a break at Cavallo Point and get back to nature – your body, mind, and spirit will thank you.

Fort Baker History Tours

Cavallo Point is situated in historic Fort Baker, and much of the lodge is comprised of buildings constructed in the early 1900s, as part of a peacetime effort to provide a higher standard of living for enlisted men as well as officers and their families. Our resident historian will lead you on enlightening walk around the property, touring the Victorian homes, barracks, gymnasium, chapel, jailhouse, and other buildings that have been preserved and repurposed.

Tours are complimentary for lodge guests and generally run on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 pm; please see our event calendar for details.

Rodeo Beach

Rodeo Beach

Enjoy an excursion to Rodeo Beach, located in the nearby Marin Headlands. Windswept, exhilarating, and covered with fascinating red, green and other colorful pebbles indigenous to the San Francisco coastline, Rodeo Beach is sheltered by cliffs and bound by a lagoon, providing a picturesque location for picnics, kite flying, or simply admiring the majestic Pacific.

Complimentary shuttle service is provided Wednesday - Sunday for lodge guests.
