An Evening with John Briscoe, author of Crush

Join us for a special evening as we welcome John Briscoe, author of Crush: The Triumph of California Wine. Published in September 2018, Crush tells the fascinating 200-year history of wine-making in California and the dream of making wines as good as the greatest in France. Enjoy a conversation and book signing with John Briscoe, along with wine tasting with several local wineries , light snacks, and 15% savings at the Mercantile, where Crush is being sold.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
John Briscoe is a San Francisco author, poet, lawyer and restaurateur. He has published poetry, articles on law, literature and history, and several books including Tadich Grill: The Story of San Francisco’s Oldest Restaurant. Since 1972 he has argued and tried cases in the United States Supreme Court, in the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, and in courts across the country. A distinguished fellow at the UC Berkeley, he has served for 22 years on the advisory board of the creative-writing MFA program at St. Mary’s College. Briscoe is co-owner of Sam’s Grill in San Francisco, founded in 1867.

The menu calls for some southern BBQ favorites such as a slow-smoked pork ribs, grilled chicken, Impossible burger steaks, Memphis BBQ sides like black eye pea & bean salad and corn bread, and more. For kids, there are mini burgers with cheese and all-beef hot dogs. We're serving local brews from Fort Point, wine and summer cocktails, along with live bluegrass from Tim Weed & Friends. After eating, enjoy lawn games and browse the wares of some of the Bay Area's most talented artisans.

Based in Santa Rosa, Compassion without Borders brings brighter futures to animals in need on both sides of the border. They focus their efforts where the need is the greatest, but where animals are the very least likely to be helped due to financial, geographic, and cultural barriers.

Picnic Under The Golden Gate

Celebrate Labor Day with a classic picnic-style BBQ. Enjoy a menu offering tasty fare such as cheeseburgers, grilled salmon sandwiches, vegetarian chili, and picnic sides like summer tomato salad, pesto pasta salad, and more. For kids, there are all-beef hot dogs and mini-cheese-burgers. We'll be serving local Fort Point beer, wine, and picnic-perfect cocktails, while live classic rock from the Whitecliff Rangers plays in the background. Take some time for lawn games and to browse great goods from local Bay Area artisans.

Lectures at Cavallo Point

Throughout the year, Cavallo Point organizes engaging lectures for guests and the local community. Many are developed in conjunction with the Institute at the Golden Gate. The Institute, a landmark program of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy in partnership with the National Park Service, brings environmental programming to Cavallo Point and other venues.

 

Activities at Cavallo Point Lodge

We want guests at Cavallo Point to make the most of nearby riches that add so much to the San Francisco Bay Area. To that end, we offer diverse activities each day.
