Join us at the Healing Arts Center & Spa, as Cavallo Point’s resident Shaman, Molly Maguire, presents the Sacred Circle Book Club, exploring inspirational, intriguing, spiritual, and perhaps even life-changing books.
This month we will explore the life story of an African shaman named Malidoma Somé. In the year 1960, during the French-colonial era in West Africa, he was taken from his Dagara tribal community and placed into Catholic seminary school where he trained to be a priest from the ages of four to 19. When he finally returned home, he faced harrowing trials as he attempted to gain acceptance back into his community. He was then given a new mission by his tribal elders – to share the Dagara medicine teachings with the greater world. Malidoma’s autobiography gifts the reader a chance to explore indigenous traditions and experiences completely hidden from the Western view until Of Water and the Spirit.
